Some of the creations look lovely, true, but is "wear and toss" the right attitude for present day?

I love that Videodrome takes p[lace in Pittsburgh. If you want to reading a fascinating theoretical take on this film, check out Fredric Jameson's The Geo-political Aesthetic, he has a crazy reading about post-modernism and global capital, it is a tough read, but he has some fascinating thing to say about the intersection of reality and view participation. Speaking of which, with the advent of web 2.0 technologies like blogs and wikis, tv itself is changing. If you're a Lost fan, you might know of Lostpedia, a wiki where folks go and talk about their theories of the show as well as engage in some of the craziest scene-by-scene analysis I have ever scene anywhere. It is not a stretch to thing that this relatively anonymous fan base, given certain technologies, is helping to shape that series in very real ways. A contemporary koment where TV is not simply acting on us, but we are interacting with it, a very Videodrome conception in some ways -but maybe ot as utterly bodily and depressing.

Here's great video of The Velvet Underground performing at The Factory. In addition to the Velvet Underground, you can see some Factory mainstays like Edie Sedgwick and Gerard Malanga.

What an excellent clip, moreover, your suggestion that it is "difficult to counter years of art historical training and examine it for what it is, not who made it" is an extremely insightful and self-conscious statement. As you think through these movies, I am really impressed with how beautifully you frame such a powerful, but often unacknowledged, issue of examining art. Assumptions about genius and what's art are so often dependent as much upon the idea of someone or something as it is upon the actual work. Brava!
